The Education and Economy workstream exists to make economic and political systems visible, and to open space for young people to imagine something different.
About This Workstream
Education is one thread in a much larger web — one that shapes our values, our sense of self, and the ways we relate to each other and to the planet. From our earliest years, our social and emotional lives are formed by the people and institutions around us, and education is one of the most powerful of these forces.
Education and the Economy is a space for asking hard questions about that formation: How does our education mirror the goals of dominant economic and political systems? Where do we unconsciously reproduce those goals in our leadership, our relationships, and the ways we approach change? And what would it look like to build something rooted in wellbeing, embodiment, and collective flourishing instead?
Alongside tools for critical reflection, we offer practices for embodiment and heart-based relationality — because real transformation takes more than new ideas. It takes pausing, sensing, and practicing new ways of being together.
Our Objectives
- Offer tools for reflecting on our education and the economic institutions that shape its values, goals, and direction
- Offer practices for reflection and embodiment that are foundational to heart-based, wisdom-based leadership
- Build pathways to youth partners and young people already reframing the goals of education and economics

The Young Person’s Guide to Re-Imagining the Economy
A three-part webinar series hosted in partnership with the Doughnut Economics Action Lab (DEAL) and Climate Youth Resilience (CYR), created for young leaders and changemakers ready to question the systems they were educated into — and imagine, together, what comes next.
This series builds on a January 2026 event held for the Learning Planet Festival, ReIMAGINING the Purpose of Education, where nearly 60 participants explored DEAL’s Embedded Economy and Preparing to Teach tools through CYR’s facilitation and reflective practice. Participants told us they wanted more time and a more accessible way to get to the heart of reimagining education — so we’re back with an expanded journey across three sessions: Mind, Body & Heart, and Revolution.
Session 1
Awakening the Imprinted Patterns of Our Education
Mind: Sept 10 · 12nn Lisbon / 7pm Manila
We map our education journey using two of DEAL’s foundational tools — the Embedded Economy, and a second mapping activity — to trace the activities, purposes, and systems our education belongs to, including the ideas of success we’ve internalized along the way. We close by asking: what does success really look like in our society, and what paradigms of doing and being are we unconsciously trained into?
Session 2
Embodying Our Patterns, Leading with Our Hearts
Body & Heart: Sept 17 · 12nn Lisbon / 7pm Manila
We move from the head into the body — noticing how joy, grief, and oppression show up in different spaces of schooling — and then into the heart, asking what makes us come alive and how that connects to the education we received. Together we explore what flourishing actually requires, and what role embodiment and liberation could play in the education we build next.
Session 3
Revolutionary Approaches to Economics and Education
Revolution: Sept 24 · 12nn Lisbon / 7pm Manila
Having mapped the patterns and felt them in our bodies and hearts, we turn to what’s already being built differently. DEAL shares its own work in education, and we hear from changemakers reimagining economic life. We close by opening the floor: what could revolutionary education and economics look like in your own community?
